After successfully organising and carrying out two symposia for the Stiftung Mercator foundation, Nordmann Event Consulting was once again commissioned to help organise a series of events in China entitled ‘Enlightenment in Dialogue’.

N-EC supported the foundation in hosting a series of academic events to accompany the exhibition ‘The Art of the Enlightenment’ in Beijing. The series comprised five forums and nine salons over a period of 15 months, which examined topics such as the artistic and historical aspects of a contemporary approach to discussing the Enlightenment.

Nordmann Event Consulting – The first agency permitted to organise an event in the National Museum of China.

The opening was attended by the then Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs, Guido Westerwelle, China’s Minister of Culture Cai Wu, as well as high-ranking representatives from China and Germany.

More than 3000 guests from many countries participated in the events. The objectives were clearly defined by the foundation: comprehension of the Enlightenment as part of a universal ‘world heritage of ideas’ and stimulation of open dialogue on the meaning of the Enlightenment in the modern world. All the participants and organisers were very positive about the outcome.

“We initiated this event series because we believe that dialogue between China and Germany is both valuable and necessary. For us as a foundation, it was important to offer a platform for discussing the philosophical, social and artistic differences and similarities between the European and Chinese Enlightenments, with the aim of promoting mutual understanding. We have succeeded in doing this,” said Professor Dr. Bernhard Lorentz, President and CEO of Stiftung Mercator.
